## Summary

Software process improvement (SPI) is a crucial means to achieve organizational goals and increase efficiency. A thorough analysis of existing maturity models and assessment frameworks was conducted to streamline SPI initiatives and ensure alignment with desired values. Seven secondary studies were reviewed, highlighting the need for new maturity models that explicitly consider values and benefits. The analysis revealed a lack of empirical validation and theoretical basis in many proposed models, leading to potential gaps in research and development. To address these gaps, a value-driven approach for SPI was proposed using benefits-dependency networks to track progress towards intended values. By identifying specific values and benefits relevant to the organization's context through literature reviews, a new maturity model can be designed that aligns with practical needs. This approach combines theoretical insights with practical considerations to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of SPI initiatives. In conclusion, developing tailored maturity models that prioritize value delivery and align with organizational goals is essential for sustainable improvements in software processes.
