## Summary

This paper presents a novel integrated multiport bidirectional dc-dc converter designed for hybrid energy systems such as hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs). The converter serves as an interface between various energy sources, including batteries, ultra-capacitors, and fuel cells, and the dc-link capacitor of the system. It can also be applied to distributed generation systems with local energy sources, storage, and loads. One of the key features of the proposed converter is its ability to perform both buck and boost functions using fewer switches. This allows for efficient power conversion between different voltage levels in the system. Additionally, the converter is extendable meaning it can accommodate more inputs and outputs if needed. The operating principle and control strategy of the converter are analyzed in detail in this paper. The authors provide verification through simulation and experimental results for four different operating modes of an HEV/FCV. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed converter in achieving reliable power conversion within hybrid energy systems. Overall, this paper introduces a promising solution for integrating multiple energy sources into hybrid energy systems. The proposed converter offers improved efficiency and flexibility compared to existing converters. Its application in HEVs, FCVs, and distributed generation systems has significant potential for advancing sustainable transportation and renewable energy utilization.
