## Summary

In recent years, the topic of ethics in AI has sparked debates among the public and experts alike. It is crucial to understand the perspective of those who actually build AI systems - AI practitioners - and their understanding of AI ethics and the challenges associated with incorporating ethical principles into their work. To gain insights into this, a survey was conducted to explore AI practitioners' awareness of AI ethics and the difficulties they face in integrating ethics into their AI-based systems. The survey collected responses from 100 AI practitioners, revealing that a majority had a reasonable familiarity with the concept of AI ethics. This familiarity was primarily attributed to workplace rules and policies. Among the ethical principles, privacy protection and security were found to be widely recognized by most practitioners. Additionally, formal education and training were considered somewhat helpful in preparing practitioners to incorporate AI ethics into their work. The challenges faced by AI practitioners in developing ethical AI-based systems can be categorized into three main areas: general challenges, technology-related challenges, and human-related challenges. These challenges encompass various aspects such as ensuring fairness and transparency in algorithms, addressing biases in data collection and processing, managing accountability for system outcomes, navigating legal and regulatory frameworks, as well as considering societal impacts. Furthermore, the study identified several areas that require further investigation to enhance the incorporation of ethics into AI development. Recommendations were provided to assist both individual practitioners and companies in addressing these challenges effectively. Overall, understanding the perspectives of AI practitioners on AI ethics is essential because they are at the forefront of developing these systems and have potential to drive positive changes and improvements. By recognizing their awareness levels, identifying challenges they face, conducting further research in relevant areas, implementing recommended practices; we can foster responsible development practices that prioritize ethical considerations in all stages of an AI system's development.
