## Summary

In 2023, three significant anniversaries are being celebrated in the field of theoretical physics. The first is the 150th anniversary of the French Physical Society (SFP), an organization that has played a crucial role in advancing physics in France. The second anniversary marks 100 years since the publication of Louis de Broglie's groundbreaking articles on Quantum Mechanics, which laid the foundation for this revolutionary field of study. Lastly, it is also the 50th anniversary of the development of the Standard Model, a theory that successfully describes the interactions among elementary particles. This note aims to present an overview of theoretical physics in France during these years and highlight the contributions made by French physicists to this global endeavor. While acknowledging that French theorists have made important contributions, it also recognizes that they have rarely taken on leading roles in shaping these fields. One area where progress has been challenging is in developing a quantum theory of gravity. Even with theories like "super-gravity N = 8," which possesses extensive symmetry, researchers have struggled to overcome gravitational divergences. This failure has led to a reevaluation of local quantum field theories and a shift towards extended object theories such as string theory. While string theory offers a potential solution without divergences, its connection with experimental observations remains problematic. French physicists have played prominent roles in exploring theories beyond the Standard Model such as supersymmetry and string theory. If these efforts prove successful, their fundamental importance will undoubtedly be recognized. In conclusion, recounting the history of the Standard Model would be an exhilarating experience; although there are existing historical accounts available, a comprehensive history may still be forthcoming. In this presentation while taking advantage of SFP's anniversary celebrations to discuss French contributions there was also an opportunity to provide a summary from my perspective on this fascinating journey through theoretical physics.
