## Summary

The widespread adoption and usage of generative artificial intelligence (AI) models, particularly ChatGPT, in the educational landscape has sparked a surge in research exploring their potential applications. This survey aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of recent academic literature on the practical applications and implications of generative AI models in diverse educational contexts. The research methodology followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) statement to select relevant articles. In addition to searching multiple databases, Google Scholar was used to ensure a comprehensive search. The paper selection criteria included academic articles published between November 2022 and July 2023 in Scopus-indexed Q1 and Q2 journals. Only articles written in English were included. The literature review section discusses the related research on using generative AI models and Chatbots, with a specific focus on ChatGPT. One study conducted a meta-analysis of 24 randomized studies using Stata software to analyze the impact of adopting AI chatbots on students' learning outcomes. The findings revealed that AI chatbots have a substantial effect on students' learning outcomes, with more pronounced effects among higher education students compared to those in primary and secondary education. Shorter interventions with AI chatbots were found to have a stronger effect on learning outcomes compared to longer interventions, suggesting that novelty effects may enhance learning outcomes in the short term but diminish over time. Overall, this survey contributes to the understanding of the evolving role of generative AI models, particularly ChatGPT, in education. It sheds light on potential benefits, challenges, and emerging trends in this dynamic field. The findings empower educators, researchers, and policymakers to make informed decisions about integrating AI technologies into learning environments.
