We discuss a family of W-class states describing three-qubit systems. For such systems, we analyze the relations between the entanglement measures and the nonlocality parameter for a two-mode mixed state related to the two-qubit subsystem. We find the conditions determining the boundary values of the negativity, parameterized by concurrence, for violating the Bell-CHSH inequality. Additionally, we derive the value ranges of the mixedness measure, parameterized by concurrence and negativity for the qubit–qubit mixed state, guaranteeing the violation and non-violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality.

We investigate quantum correlations appearing for two-qubit detectors which are initially uncorrelated and locally coupled to a massless scalar field in a vacuum state. Under the perturbation up to the second order in the coupling, the state of the detectors can be entangled through the interaction with the scalar field but satisfies the Bell-CHSH inequality. The violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality for such an entangled state is revealed by local filtering operations. In this paper, we construct the optimal filtering operations for the qubit detectors and derive the success probability of the filtering. The success probability characterizes the reliability of revealing the violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality by the filtering operations. Through these analyses, we demonstrate a trade-off relation between the success probability and the size of parameter region showing the violation of the Bell-CHSH inequality.

Abstract The Bell/CHSH inequalities of quantum physics are identical with the inequalities derived in mathematical psychology for the problem of selective influences in cases involving two binary experimental factors and two binary random variables recorded in response to them. The following points are made regarding cognitive science applications: (1) compliance of data with these inequalities is informative only if the data satisfy the requirement known as marginal selectivity; (2) both violations of marginal selectivity and violations of the Bell/CHSH inequalities are interpretable as indicating that at least one of the two responses is influenced by both experimental factors.
