, , , , The Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) has been a groundbreaking technology, initially developed to assist individuals with physical disabilities. Recently, there has been a shift towards integrating BCI with Augmented Reality (AR) to not only improve the quality of life for disabled individuals but also to create mainstream applications for healthy users. One common BCI signal pattern used is the Steady-state Visually-evoked Potential (SSVEP), which captures the brain's response to flickering visual stimuli. SSVEP-based BCI-AR applications allow users to communicate their needs by simply looking at corresponding command options. However, individual differences in brain signals require personalized SSVEP recognition, and factors like muscle movements and eye blinks can interfere with accurate signal detection. To address these challenges, a simple adaptive ensemble classification system has been proposed in this study to handle inter-subject variability. Additionally, a novel BCI-AR framework has been presented that supports the development of various SSVEP-based applications. The performance of the ensemble algorithm was evaluated in an SSVEP-based BCI-AR application involving head rotations, demonstrating robustness against movement interference. Testing on multiple subjects achieved impressive mean accuracy rates of 80% on a PC and 77% using the HoloLens AR headset, surpassing previous studies that utilized individual classifiers and head movements. Furthermore, the study highlights that the visual stimulation time used is relatively short at 5 seconds. The statistically significant results indicate that the ensemble classification approach outperforms individual classifiers in SSVEP-based BCIs. Overall, this research contributes valuable insights into enhancing BCI-AR systems for improved user experience and performance across different applications and user scenarios.
