The entanglement of assistance quantifies the entanglement that can be generated between two parties, Alice and Bob, given assistance from a third party, Charlie, when the three share a tripartite state and where the assistance consists of Charlie initially performing a measurement on his share and communicating the result to Alice and Bob through a one-way classical channel. We argue that if this quantity is to be considered an operational measure of entanglement, then it must be understood to be a tripartite rather than a bipartite measure. We compare it with a distinct tripartite measure that quantifies the entanglement that can be generated between Alice and Bob when they are allowed to make use of a two-way classical channel with Charlie. We show that the latter quantity, which we call the entanglement of collaboration, can be greater than the entanglement of assistance. This demonstrates that the entanglement of assistance (considered as a tripartite measure of entanglement), and its multipartite generalizations such as the localizable entanglement, are not entanglement monotones, thereby undermining their operational significance.

Tripartite entanglement is examined when one of the three parties moves with a uniform acceleration with respect to other parties. As the Unruh effect indicates, tripartite entanglement exhibits a decreasing behavior with increasing acceleration. Unlike bipartite entanglement, however, tripartite entanglement does not completely vanish in the infinite acceleration limit. If the three parties, for example, share the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger or $W$ state initially, the corresponding $\ensuremath{\pi}$-tangle, one of the measures of tripartite entanglement, is shown to be $\ensuremath{\pi}/6~0.524$ or $0.176$ in this limit, respectively. This fact indicates that tripartite quantum-information processing may be possible even if one of the parties approaches the Rindler horizon. The physical implications of this striking result are discussed in the context of black-hole physics.

The generation of entangled photons through Spontaneous Parametric Down-Conversion (SPDC) is a critical resource for many key experiments and technologies in the domain of quantum optics. Historically, SPDC was limited to the generation of photon pairs. However, the use of the strong nonlinearities in circuit quantum electrodynamics has recently enabled the observation of Three-Photon SPDC (3P-SPDC). Despite great interest in the entanglement structure of the resultant states, entanglement between photon triplets produced by a 3P-SPDC source has still has not been confirmed. Here, we report on the observation of genuine tripartite non-Gaussian entanglement in the steady-state output field of a 3P-SPDC source consisting of a superconducting parametric cavity coupled to a transmission line. We study this non-Gaussian tripartite entanglement using an entanglement witness built from three-mode correlation functions, and observe a maximum violation of the bound by 23 standard deviations of the statistical noise. Furthermore, we find strong agreement between the observed and the analytically predicted scaling of the entanglement witness. We then explore the impact of the temporal function used to define the photon mode on the observed value of the entanglement witness.

We review some current ideas of tripartite entanglement. In particular, we consider the case representing the next level of complexity beyond the simplest (though far from trivial) one, namely the bipartite case. This kind of entanglement plays an essential role in understanding the foundations of quantum mechanics. It also allows for implementing several applications in the fields of quantum information processing and quantum computing. In this paper, we review the fundamental aspects of tripartite entanglement focusing on Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger and W states for discrete variables. We discuss the possibility of using it as a resource to execute quantum protocols and present some examples in detail.

We show that no EPR-like bipartite entanglement can be distilled from a tripartite Haar random state $|Ψ\rangle_{ABC}$ by local unitaries or local operations when each subsystem $A$, $B$, or $C$ has fewer than half of the total qubits. Specifically, we derive an upper bound on the probability of sampling a state with EPR-like entanglement at a given EPR fidelity tolerance, showing a doubly-exponential suppression in the number of qubits. Our proof relies on a simple volume argument supplemented by an $ε$-net argument and concentration of measure. Viewing $|Ψ\rangle_{ABC}$ as a bipartite quantum error-correcting code $C\to AB$, this implies that neither output subsystem $A$ nor $B$ supports any non-trivial logical operator. We also establish general constraints on the structure of tripartite entanglement in Haar random states, showing that W- or GHZ-like entanglement cannot be distilled and that nontrivial global symmetries are absent. Finally, we discuss a physical interpretation in the AdS/CFT correspondence, indicating that a connected entanglement wedge does not necessarily imply bipartite entanglement, contrary to a previous belief.

Although genuine multipartite entanglement has already been generated and verified by experiments, most of the existing measures cannot detect genuine entanglement faithfully. In this work, by exploiting for the first time a previously overlooked constraint for the distribution of entanglement in three-qubit systems, we reveal a new genuine tripartite entanglement measure, which is related to the area of a so-called concurrence triangle. It is compared with other existing measures and is found superior to previous attempts for different reasons. A specific example is illustrated to show that two tripartite entanglement measures can be inequivalent due to the high dimensionality of the Hilbert space. The properties of the triangle measure make it a candidate in potential quantum tasks and available to be used in any multiparty entanglement problems.

I explore entanglement dynamics in a three qubit system comparing the ability of entanglement witnesses to detect tripartite entanglement to the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death (ESD). Using a system subject to dephasing I invoke entanglement witnesses to detect tripartite Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ)-type and $W$-type entanglement and compare the evolution of their detection capabilities with the evolution of the negativity, bipartite concurrence, and tripartite negativity. Interestingly, I find a state in which there is no concurrence or tripartite negativity but there is entanglement. Finally, I utilize a three qubit quantum error correction code to address how ESD affects the abilities of quantum error correction.

It has recently been argued that among the various suggested measures of tripartite entanglement, the two particular measures, viz. the Concurrence Fill and the Genuine Multipartite Concurrence are the only 'genuine' tripartite entanglement measures based on certain suitably specified criteria. In this context, we show that these two genuine tripartite entanglement measures can be empirically determined for the two important classes of tripartite entangled states, viz. the generalized GHZ and the generalized W states using the derived relationships of these two measures with the observable statistical correlators like the Pearson correlator and mutual information. Such a formulated scheme would therefore provide for the first time the means to exactly quantify tripartite entanglement, crucial for the proper assessment of its efficacy as resource. We also point out two specific applications of this scheme, viz. a) Enabling empirical demonstration of the potentially significant feature of inequivalence between Concurrence Fill and Genuine Multipartite Concurrence in quantitatively assessing which of the two given tripartite states is more entangled than the other one. b) Enabling experimental detection of the recently predicted phenomenon of entanglement sudden death for a tripartite system.

A bstract We argue that holographic CFT states require a large amount of tripartite entanglement, in contrast to the conjecture that their entanglement is mostly bipartite. Our evidence is that this mostly-bipartite conjecture is in sharp conflict with two well- supported conjectures about the entanglement wedge cross section surface EW . If EW is related to either the CFT’s reflected entropy or its entanglement of purification, then those quantities can differ from the mutual information at $$ O\left(\frac{1}{G_N}\right). $$ O 1 G N . We prove that this implies holographic CFT states must have $$ O\left(\frac{1}{G_N}\right). $$ O 1 G N . amounts of tripartite entanglement. This proof involves a new Fannes-type inequality for the reflected entropy, which itself has many interesting applications.

We investigate the genuine entanglement in tripartite systems based on partial transposition and the norm of correlation tensors of the density matrices. We first derive an analytical sufficient criterion to detect genuine entanglement of tripartite qubit quantum states combining with the partial transposition of the density matrices. Then we use the norm of correlation tensors to study genuine entanglement for tripartite qudit quantum states and obtain a genuine entanglement criterion by constructing certain matrices. With detailed examples our results are seen to be able to detect more genuine tripartite entangled states than previous studies.
