The aim of this research is to analyze India's learning and upgrading through its position, functions, specialization and value addition in manufacturing Global Value Chains (GVCs). To answer this goal three fundamental questions have been formulated: (1) What is the extent of India's Manufacturing Links in GVCs? (2) What are the determinants of India's Manufacturing Links in GVCs? (3) What are the impacts of India's Manufacturing Links in GVCs? These objectives form the basis for the three chapters of this PhD thesis. Several sources have been consulted to provide more context for this research such as technical reports by Campa and Goldberg (1997), Cattaneo and Miroudot (2013), Dedrick et al. (2008), Dietzenbacher et al. (2005), Fally (2011), Feenstra (1998), Feenstra & Hanson (1996), Gereffi & Fernandez-Stark (2016), Gereffi et al. (2001) and Gereffi et al. (2005). Other sources include Goldar et al. (2017), González & Holmes(2011), Grossman & Rossi-Hansberg(2008; 2012); Grubel & Lloyd(1975); Helpman & Krugman(1985); Hummels et al. (2001); Humphrey(2004) and Humphrey & Schmitz(2002). Analytical frameworks for global value chains were also reviewed with an overview provided by Inomata(2017). The planning of this research should consider domestic content in exports as well as gross exports to identify India's manufacturing links with GVCs. The World Bank's technical report on measuring and analyzing the impact of GVCs on economic development is also relevant to this research.

This research is about how India makes things and sells them to other countries. The researchers have three big questions they want to answer: How much does India make for other countries? What helps India make things for other countries? And what happens when India makes things for other countries? The answers to these questions will be in three parts of a big paper called a PhD thesis. They looked at lots of different information, like reports and ways to understand how the world works. When people plan how to sell things from India, they should think about how much of the thing comes from inside India and how much goes outside India. There is another report that talks about this kind of thing too, made by the World Bank."
Definitions- Research: studying something carefully to learn more about it
- Manufacturing: making things
- Global Value Chains (GVCs): when different countries work together to make something and then sell it
- Objectives: goals or aims
- PhD thesis: a really long paper that someone writes after studying something for many years
- Sources: places where you can find information
- Technical reports: papers with lots of details and facts
- Analytical frameworks: tools used to help understand complex ideas
- Domestic content: things made inside a country
- Gross exports: all the things sold by a country to others
- Economic development: making a country's economy better
India's Learning and Upgrading in Global Value Chains

Contextualizing Research
Several sources have been consulted to provide more context for this research such as technical reports by Campa and Goldberg (1997), Cattaneo and Miroudot (2013), Dedrick et al. (2008), Dietzenbacher et al. (2005), Fally (2011), Feenstra (1998), Feenstra & Hanson (1996), Gereffi & Fernandez-Stark(2016); Gereffi et al.(2001); Gereffi et al.(2005). Analytical frameworks for global value chains were also reviewed with an overview provided by Inomata(2017). The World Bank’s technical report on measuring and analyzing the impact of GVCs on economic development is also relevant to this research.
Planning Research
The planning of this research should consider domestic content in exports as well as gross exports to identify India's manufacturing links with GVCs. This will help determine what factors influence these connections, such as labor costs, infrastructure, technology, etc., so that a comprehensive understanding can be developed about how they affect economic growth. Additionally, it will be important to assess how these links impact other aspects like job creation or environmental sustainability within different regions across India.
Conclusion
This research aims to understand how Indian manufacturers interact with global value chains so that informed policy decisions can be made regarding their role within them. By looking at both domestic content within exports as well as gross exports, it will be possible to gain insight into what factors influence these connections between countries while assessing their impacts on economic growth and other areas like job creation or environmental sustainability across different regions within India.
